Hamburger Mary's is back, baby

If you have been past the former Hamburger Mary’s location (map)on Vine Street in downtown Cincinnati you might have noticed some newactivity stirring about inside.  It is not the ghosts of Mary’s past,but rather Mary herself.

Hamburger Mary’s has announced that they will be reopening its Cincinnati location this summer around late July or early August.

The5,200 square-foot restaurant space is located within a single-storybuilding almost at the terminus of the Court Street Marketplace, andpreviously boasted sidewalk dining space.

The return will not only bring back the popular burgers and sandwiches that Hamburger Mary’swas known for, but also the gay-friendly atmosphere that often servedas a meeting and rallying point for members of Cincinnati’s gaycommunity.

The Mary of past went away several years ago and wasreplaced by Universal Grille which closed last year.  The space has satvacant since then, but now boasts Mary’s bust prominently across thefront windows announcing her return.

Hamburger Mary’s isactually part of a larger master franchise that at one time had 12locations nation-wide.  The Cincinnati location will be owned andoperated by Gail Marlow and her partner Mary Onken who are both comingfrom Chicago.

Marlow is the former director of the ChicagoLesbian and Gay International Film Festival and looks to introduce moreentertainment to the reincarnated Mary’s.

The Cincinnatilocation will become the eighth location nation-wide includingrestaurants in Denver, Palm Springs, Hollywood and Chicago.
